Arctic melt hit record in a stormy 2012: U.N.

GENEVA – Melting of the Arctic’s sea ice reached a record extent in 2012, the ninth-hottest year on record, compounding concerns about climate change, the U.N. weather agency said Thursday. In a report on the situation in 2012, the World Meteorological Organization said that from August to September, the Arctic’s sea ice covered an area of just 3.4 million sq. km. That was a full 18 percent less than the previous record low, set in 2007. http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2013/05/03/world/arctic-melt-hit-record-in-a-stormy-2012-u-n/#.UaYA45xGZAE

United Nations: 2012 was 9th-hottest year since 1850

GENEVA — The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) says that last year was the ninth-warmest since record-keeping began in 1850, despite the cooling effect of the weather pattern called La Nina. The U.N.'s weather agency says this marks the 27th year in a row the global average temperature -- 58 degrees Fahrenheit in 2012 -- surpassed the 1961-1990 average. http://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2013/05/03/united-nations-ninth-warmest-year/2132745/

Reality.

A planet wide hurricane strength storm is coming, climatically speaking--and humans are bickering over who gets to stand under the flimsy umbrellas as the first rain drops hit.
